Our support for schools
A school-centred ethos
We aim to:
- provide support that suits the specific needs of each individual school, the children and their parents and carers
- provide support for schools preparing to self-validate and for those transferring to the Annual Review and the Healthy Schools enhancement model
- provide realistic support and advice to develop meaningful and achievable action plans based on the needs of the school
- help schools achieve the best possible outcomes from their involvement in the programme
- focus on the needs of schools rather than government targets
- ensure schools have autonomy over their involvement with the programme
- offer a high level of support to schools
- celebrate all the achievements and successes that every school brings to Healthy Schools
- work cooperatively with all our partners for the benefit of schools
- be innovative, listening, responsive, flexible and positive
- and strive for inclusion and equality in all we do.
We aim to do this by:
- providing good quality, timely information in accessible ways
- sharing good practice and celebrating successes
- offering needs-led training at flexible times and in more locations, as well as specific school-based support
- developing and facilitating teacher support networks and helping new schools learn from the good practice of similar schools
- enabling meaningful participation of teachers, staff, parents and carers, and pupils in the development, delivery and evaluation of the programme
- continually evaluating our activities and their impact
- bringing an understanding of the realities of school life and the challenges they present
- keeping up to date with developments in education and where Healthy Schools fits
- and making a commitment to the Every Child Matters outcomes.
