Outcomes
Emotional health and wellbeing
Quantitative outcomes from schools in Cornwall:
- The self-esteem of children throughout the school has increased by 68% on average since the introduction of SEAL in 2007. (Data from our annual child self-esteem questionnaire.)
- Since raising the profile of emotional health and wellbeing throughout the school with daily inclusion in assemblies from September 2007, there has been a significant increase in students taking the lead in assemblies and all students expect to contribute in some way during the academic year.
- A new Behaviour Policy was put in place in September 2008. Despite an initial rise in the number of pupils receiving detentions, the total for the half term was 5.2% of pupils, in contrast with 7.01% for the same period last year.
- Our annual questionnaire invites parents to make additional comments. Since the introduction of parental involvement in school, the SEAL curriculum and extra family activities, the number of questionnaires returned has increased from 34 (2007) to 48 (2008) and the positive comments regarding areas of emotional health and wellbeing have increased from 78 (2007) to 129 (2008).
- After implementing staff training regarding emotional health and wellbeing around the Every Child Matters agenda in September 2008, all staff now report that they now feel more confident to deliver related materials and track students' concerns and progress.
