Outcomes
Physical activity
Quantitative outcomes from schools in Cornwall:
- Since the beginning of 2007 the school has taken extra measures to achieve the Active Mark which shows that more than 90% of the children now take part in two or more hours of high quality PE each week.
- The school runs more than thirty different clubs throughout the year, compared with the national average of sixteen. In the whole-school pupil survey of June 2008, 88% of children said they were happy with after-school clubs.
- In the spring term 2008, through the School Council and Circle Time, the children were consulted about physical activity. As a result of this consultation we have started new clubs, for example girls' football, and there has been an increase in participation in extra-curricular clubs to the current level of 74% (September 2008).
- Since achieving the Activemark Gold Award in 2005, a variety of new physical activities have been introduced in addition to the PE curriculum. In the School Council survey of October 2008, 97% children said they enjoy all or some of the physical activities at school.
- After consultation with the children through a survey in November 2007, we organised additional after-schools clubs, including basketball skills and yoga. 70% of children now attend at least one after-school club.
