Quantitative outcomes from schools in Cornwall:

  • Following the introduction of SEAL in April 2008 and the emphasis on Healthy Schools work, assessments show that the percentage of children who realise that being healthy involves many aspects, not only healthy food and excercise, has increased from 2% to 72%.
  • In January 2008 our school council purchased a range of equipment and playground games to help promote playground harmony and reduce boredom. Since then, lunchtime supervisors have reported an approximate 80% decrease of lunchtime disputes among children. Our recent pupil survey supports this, with 96% of children saying they enjoy lunchtimes, 95% saying they enjoy playtimes and 97% saying that they feel safe in school.
  • A parental questionnaire carried out in July 2005 and again in July 2008, shows that since the introduction of SEAL, the number of parents who strongly agree that their child enjoys school has increased from 39% to 50%.
  • As a result of the recent PSHE and Citizenship audit, September 2007, undertaken for the Healthy Schools Programme, gaps within the programme have been identified such as timetabled sessions for PSHE, SRE & Drugs and a new framework for PSHE and SEAL, using the ECM framework has been developed'. Teachers report feeling more confident in teaching the various topic areas since the purchase of new resources and a more structured approach; including the use of outside agencies.
