Annual Review

The Annual Review enables you to maintain the universal provision for health and wellbeing that was in place when you achieved national Healthy School status. It does what it says: provides you with the opportunity to monitor your core Healthy Schools work.

It is crucial in ensuring that you lay down and maintain the foundation that gives you the platform to move on to the enhancement model.

The Annual Review became available on the national Healthy Schools website on 5th November 2009 and is shorter than the more familiar audit of the forty-one criteria. It is closely aligned with the new SEF and the requirements placed upon schools around Ofsted's pupil wellbeing indicators. It is also consistent with the requirements for extended schools. All this means that its content can be transferred to or from other key documents that you are asked to complete.

The Annual Review poses questions based on the elements of the Whole School Approach and cross-references with the forty-one criteria of the four core themes.

You can transfer information from your existing audit to the Annual Review and we are making sure that all schools are supported in doing this.

We're hosting some online drop-in days, see our training page for dates and venues. On these days we'll provide practical help not just with the Annual Review but with the other Healthy Schools online tools as well.

Guidance notes

We compiled the following guidance to show what sort of evidence needs to go into the Annual Review. Read the prompts and use them, but of course it's important that your Annual Review records what is done in your school. Cornwall Healthy Schools Annual Review guidance notes.

Timescales

We want to emphasise that there will be a period of transition, both to the Annual Review and to the enhancement model, based on the date when your school achieved national Healthy School status.
