Evaluation

It is important that we undertake a continuous and rigorous evaluation, both of the way the programme works in Cornwall and of the impact it is having in terms of meeting its aims, which are:

  • to support children and young people in developing healthy behaviours;
  • to help to raise pupil achievement;
  • to help to reduce health inequalities; and
  • to help promote social inclusion.

How is the programme meeting your needs?

To meet the aims of the programme it is essential for us to shape the programme in accordance with the needs of schools in Cornwall. Tell us what you think about the programme and the support you have received from us.

The feedback form is intended to help you give a snapshot of your feelings about the way we have supported you. It can be printed off and completed by hand and faxed or posted, or completed and submitted online (where the comment boxes will extend to allow you to write as much as you like).

We welcome your comments and views and act on them as far as is appropriate or possible.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Measuring the impact of Healthy Schools nationally

Ofsted carried out a national study, Healthy schools, healthy children? This work was not based exclusively on schools with National Healthy School Status, however it does highlight the positive impact that being a Healthy School has on school improvement.

During 2009 NatCen published an evaluation of Healthy Schools nationally showing that the programme is achieving its aims.

Our increasing focus on delivering meaningful healthier behaviour-change outcomes in work for Healthy Schools Plus or the Healthy Schools enhancement model is also highlighting the impact Healthy Schools is having.

We are working with the Schools Health Education Unit (SHEU), developing tools to support further evaluation of the programme locally and to support the work of schools taking part in Healthy Schools Plus and the enhancement model. These tools will help schools report on the Ofsted Pupil Wellbeing Indicators.
