Smoking, drinking and drug use among young people in England in 2008 This research report contains results from an annual survey of secondary school pupils in Years 7 to 11. More than seven thousand pupils in 264 schools in England completed questionnaires in the autumn term of 2008. The report presents information on the percentage of pupils who have ever smoked, tried alcohol or taken drugs. It explores pupils' attitudes and beliefs around smoking and drinking, tells us what children say about where they obtain cigarettes and alcohol and examines relationships between smoking, drinking and drug use along with their links with other factors including age, gender, ethnicity, previous truancy or exclusion. It also covers children's experiences of school policies in these areas. Download the summary or go to the NHS Information Centre website for the full report.
