Case studies
We now have a number of case studies written by schools in Cornwall engaging in Healthy Schools work. We hope that they will provide ideas, inspiration, encouragement and reassurance to schools just beginning the process.
I have organised the case studies by core theme on the pages related to this one (use the navigation panel on the left of your screen), but there are a couple of schools, St. Neot and Tregony, whose case studies cover several core themes.
St Neot Primary School has devoted a page on its website to its Healthy Schools work. This has helped further inform parents and governors and involve the community.
Tregony CP School found it hard to isolate one thing that typifies good practice. They are truly implementing the whole school approach and embedding the Healthy Schools ethos through a "walking bus", Wake Up Shake Up, Huff 'n Puff, a healthy tuckshop, KS2 after-school clubs for gardening and sports (cyclewise in the summer term). They also have assembly updates every third week. They have invited parents in to have a school dinner and they held a "travel to school" day to collect evidence for their travel plan. They deliver PSHE using SEAL. "Once you begin any of these activities the children become enthusiastically involved so quickly that there is no going back" said Tregony's Healthy Schools Co-ordinator.
