Alcohol Education Trust
The remit of the Alcohol Education Trust is very specific. The Trust exists to provide alcohol education in different ways to pupils aged eleven to sixteen and their parents, and to provide coherent, accurate and up to date resources and lesson plans for teachers.
Alcohol Learning Centre
The Alcohol Learning Centre was commissioned by the Department of Health (under the previous government) to help with reducing alcohol-related hospital admissions. The website is undergoing restructuring and was last updated in March 2011.
Cornwall and Isles of Scilly DAAT
The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Drug and Alcohol Action Team ensures the delivery of the national and local drug and alcohol strategies whose main purpose is the reduction of the harm that illegal drug use and alcohol misuse causes individuals, families and communities.
Department for Education
The Department for Education's website has a substance misuse updates page. The Government aims to reduce the level of substance misuse by young people through local delivery of education, prevention, treatment and enforcement programmes. This section of the DfE's website contains information and access to resources for practitioners in support of this aim.
Drinkaware
Drinkaware is an independent, UK-wide charity supported by voluntary donations from across the drinks industry. Drinkaware seeks to equip people with the knowledge they need to make decisions about how much they drink. The website is packed with information and there are also some useful tools and resources.
Autumn 2011 Drinkaware have just produced an excellent on-line resource for both primary schools, secondary schools and parents who want to talk to their children about alcohol. In:tuition is an exciting new interactive life skills education programme for young people aged 9-14 years. The programme aims to build young people's confidence, personal and social skills and help them explore how they make decisions and what might influence them. Its theme is alcohol, but its focus is wider, addressing a range of relevant personal needs in an age sensitive way. Click here for more information.
Drug Education Forum
The Drug Education Forum is a forum of national organisations committed to improving the practice and profile of drug education in England. Good drug education should help children and young people develop a positive attitude towards their own health. It should also help them to develop knowledge about drugs and skills in taking decisions.
Drugscope
Drugscope describes itself as the national membership organisation for the drug sector and the UK's leading independent centre of expertise on drugs and drug use. Drugscope seeks to inform policy development, reduce drug-related harms to individuals, families and communities - and promote health, well-being, recovery, inclusion and integration. The website is full of information and has an extensive resources section.
Stars National Initiative
Hosted by the Children's Society, Stars National Initiative is the website for anyone working with children, young people and families affected by parental drug and alcohol misuse. Go there for resources, a DVD gallery, news and information.
