Heartstart
Would you know what to do in a life-threatening emergency?
Learn emergency life support skills (ELS) through Heartstart and you could help keep someone alive until professional help arrives.
Simple skills save lives!
Cornwall Healthy Schools is working with the British Heart Foundation to bring Heartstart courses for kids, parents and carers to schools in Cornwall. Thanks to generous support from BHF we have recently appointed a new team member to support schools in the introduction of Heartstart and to train school and community instructors. If your school or community group is interested in Heartstart contact us.
The Heartstart programme includes skills such as:
- assessing an unconscious patient,
- performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR),
- dealing with choking,
- dealing with serious bleeding, and
- helping someone who may be having a heart attack.
Kids can do a Heartstart course during lessons, as part of an after-school club, during a health week or at any other time suitable with the school. And parents can be offered a two-hour course covering all the key skills.
Who is Unfortunate Eric?
He's the face of the British Heart Foundation's campaign to make sure that all children leave school knowing the necessary skills to save a life. To watch Dog Bites Man, a video clip about what Unfortunate Eric has been doing, go to the BHF's website.
