Christopher Winter Project drugs education launch day a superb success
Kirsten Jowett is the author of the Christopher Winter Project's Teaching Drug and Alcohol Education with Confidence in Primary Schools and we were delighted that she came to Truro to run a workshop for us.
She gave us an insight into CWP's thinking behind the resource then guided us through its structure. She split us into groups so that each group could look at a lesson in detail and feed back by leading an activity using the relevant picture cards and other materials.
We were also inspired to hear from Debbie Clifton-Griffith of Trewirgie Junior School about her experience of trialling the resource and how much her class enjoyed their lessons.
At the end of the workshop attendees were thrilled to go back to their schools with a free copy of the resource each (normal retail price £99). Delegates were asked what they found most useful about the day and why. Here are some of the comments they made:
"I feel more confident in being able to deliver the programme to the children in the appropriate year groups."
"My knowledge has been vastly increased and the materials seem to be excellent. I am looking forward to spending time getting to grips with them and then leading some staff training before we all start using them."
"Even though I only managed to make the afternoon I could feel the buzz in the room when I arrived. It’s great that my colleague feels so much more confident to deliver the programme with me. Having taken part in the pilot programme I know this will have a huge impact on our children. Thank you very much!"
