Want the chance to win £200 of sun safety resources?

1 Feb 2010

Sun protection online survey

Sun safety is one of the priority areas for Healthy Schools Plus and enhancement in Cornwall so the CHSP team are strongly encouraging you to take part in this survey. To this end we are offering £200 of sun safety resources if you take part and your school is drawn out of the hat! Read the message from the SWPHO...

In conjunction with the Healthy Schools programme in the south west the South West Public Health Observatory has set up an online survey to research sun protection in schools. SWPHO will use information collected through the survey to inform the development of initiatives to assist schools in this key area of health education. We consider the prevention of melanoma to be particularly important in Cornwall.

  • How long will it take? Between five and ten minutes of your time.

Why sun protection? Because the majority of skin cancers can be avoided through the adoption of sound sun protection practices and the avoidance of the use of sunbeds.
  • Why the south west? The south west has the highest rates of skin cancer in the UK.
  • Why schools? Schools play a vitally important role in increasing awareness and in promoting sun protection among children and their parents / carers.
  • Why this survey? The SWPHO lacks information on what schools currently do and also needs to find out what can be done to assist schools in the future.

The questionnaire will be online until the 5th February. If you encounter any problems or you have any questions about the survey please email nicola.bowtell@swpho.nhs.uk at the South West Public Health Observatory or phone her on 0117 970 6474.
