Support for children who are overweight or underweight
There has also been tremendous progress in establishing appropriate support and a clear care pathway for schools, children, and families once the weighing and measuring has taken place. This support includes
- signposting to advice and information
- guidance on specific help for overweight children and their families and
- better support for school nurses.
Cornwall Council's Family Information Service is able to provide infomation about physical activity or healthy living groups and activities in the area local to parents.
Our Healthy Schools Plus pilot has provided some schools with help to develop work to support parents and children around healthier lifestyles. This is proving both popular and successful. Contact us for more information.
The Change4Life movement is also providing good support and information and there are lots of materials for schools to download from the Change4Life website.
Our Families In It Together work has grown out of schools' work for Healthy Schools Plus and has also been inspired by Change4Life, go to FIT Cornwall. Our FIT programme is very suitable for those children whose parents have been sent the NCMP letter indicating that their child is just inside the overweight category, read about FIT for your school.
