Secondary schools and Short Stay Schools

In Cornwall, in addition to our 252 primary schools we have 34 secondary schools, six Short Stay Schools and a Hospital School. All institutions face challenges. In comparison with primary schools, secondary schools are generally larger and usually more complex. In their turn, the Short Stay Schools and the Hospital School also face very specific challenges. The National Healthy Schools guidance for Short Stay Schools was published in 2008, see our Short Stay Schools page for more information.

A key objective for the programme was to improve support for those in the secondary sector working towards validation or maintaining HS status. To that end Cheryl Ellwood was recruited to the post of Secondary Schools and Short Stay Schools Support Worker. She has a background of working in and with secondary schools in Cornwall and will provide specific support and guidance in this sector.
