PSHEe

At the Hub Club, Zoe Baxter, SRE Advisor, and Mandy Lancaster, Speakeasy Development Worker, did some example exercises with us, illustrating their work with schools and parents.  Al Green, Gay Men's Outreach Worker, talked about the work of Healthy Gay Cornwall and Matthew Walker, Young People's Alcohol Worker, gave a presentation on his work with schools.

Emotional Health and Wellbeing

At the Hub Club our guest speakers gave some informative presentations.  Sandra Stewart gave us an overview of the work of the Primary Mental Health Team.  We also heard about the role of CICESS, the work of Victim Support's SAFE team and the help available from Workplace Health at CIOSPCT's Health Promotion.

Physical Activity

Our first highly successful half-day workshop for the secondary sector was on the theme of physical activity.

Lynne Hadley from Three Bridges spoke about the benefits for young people with autistic spectrum disorders of keeping physically active and described some of the difficulties she has overcome.  (Three Bridges is owned and run by the charity Spectrum and is unique in Cornwall, providing specialist education for twelve pupils with autistic spectrum disorders.)  Here is Lynne's presentation.

The Pink Ladies from Penrice Community College gave a powerful presentation showing that peer-mentoring has enabled them to develop as individuals.  As mentors, they feel valued within the school community and as a result they have become more self-assured. View photo 30, the Pink Ladies.

The workshop also looked at the Thinking outside the PE box resource which shows how pupils at Norton Hill School in Bath benefit from short sessions of physical activity without the need to change into PE kit such as skipping, yoga, multi-skills bag and shake up.
