Outline SRE schemes of work / learning outcomes
The content of SRE lessons should be based on the statutory National Curriculum for science and the non-statutory framework for PSHE. SRE should be embedded into the wider PSHE programme of study and should link to the SEAL programme.
Ofsted has provided some ideas for learning outcomes in keystage 1 and 2 and learning outcomes in keystage 3 and 4 in the 2002 report on SRE. There are some excellent schemes of work available, along with good resources to support them.
As a starting point we include:
- a sample outline of a scheme of work for KS1 and KS2
- learning outcomes for pupils in Y7 – Y11 linked to the new KS3 / KS4 PHSE Personal Wellbeing programme of study.
Sex Education Forum resource
The Sex Education Forum has developed a very useful curriculum design website which includes sample schemes of work with lesson outlines and suggested resources. Go to Sex Education Forum curriculum design.
London SRE resources
The Government Office for London's Young London Matters website has been archived with the British Library. When accessing it, look for "London-wide SRE core curriculum resource" and please be aware that it has not been updated. The same caveat applies to these two documents: London SRE whole resource primary and London SRE whole resource secondary.
