The Christopher Winter Project
This is what a school in Cornwall wrote as an outcome after taking part in the Christopher Winter Project:
"Since receiving training from Zoe Baxter, SRE adviser, in delivery of the Christopher Winter Project's SRE materials in January 2010, KS2 staff have reported feeling more confident in teaching children about sex and relationships at an age-appropriate level. Children involved in the first round of lessons reported that their questions about SRE were answered and they felt comfortable talking to adults at home and at school about sex and relationships using the correct vocabulary."
The Christopher Winter Project is a training and consultancy company. Established in 1995, CWP has extensive experience of providing excellent quality sex and relationships education for young people in schools, colleges and informal settings.
In-class training: improving SRE and increasing teacher confidence
The CWP empowers teachers to deliver high quality sex and relationships education by modelling teaching approaches in the classroom and providing teachers with:
- planning support
- team-teaching
- coaching
- schemes of work
- model lesson plans
- innovative resources
- evaluation and assessment
CWP's aim is to improve the quality of SRE by increasing teacher confidence in planning, delivery and assessment.
The Cornwall Healthy Schools programme and Health Promotion's Zoe Baxter are working closely with CWP to help the schools that have chosen to focus on SRE in their Healthy Schools Plus work. Indeed both Zoe and Kate have been trained as CWP mentors and accordingly are able to work in the classroom alongside teachers to model the programme.
Zoe's work is now focused to give priority to schools in areas where there is a higher rate of teenage pregnancy. To contribute to reducing teenage pregnancy we are keen to support schools in these areas to focus on improving SRE as a priority for their Healthy Schools Plus work.
The CWP have also produced some really good resources
