A pedometer, also called a step counter, senses your body motion and counts your footsteps. Wearing a pedometer and recording your daily steps and distance is a great motivational tool. You can wear a pedometer all day, every day and record total steps from the walk to school to doing the vacuuming!
Count the steps you do each day, individually or as a family, and enter the data onto our Pedometer Challenge website.
The Challenge is free to sign up and allows you to upload your data into our league tables. You could start a competition in your family, school or with friends; who can walk the most steps in a day?
The Pedometer Challenge first began to coincide with the London 2012 Olympics, and it was awarded the London 2012 Inspire mark, which recognised exceptional and innovative projects. We are very proud to have been awarded this mark and we are keen to continue with our efforts to make it bigger and better than before.
If you would like to purchase a Silva Ex Step pedometer at a great cost price of £6.60, please contact us.
Alternatively, if your school would like to sign up, there is a class set of pedometers available to borrow through the Information and Resource Centre at the Health Promotion Service in Redruth.
You can even use the Walk 4 Life tool, part of the national Change 4 Life campaign to find out what walking routes there are in your area. You can find all sorts of routes for different ages and abilities, and you might find yourself exploring places on your doorstep that you never knew existed!
So what are you waiting for?
