The Healthy Active School System (HASS)
HASS is an online activity measurement tool which allows schools to track, monitor and evaluate children's activity levels.
Launched in January 2017, HASS allows teachers and parents to monitor pupils' activities throughout the school day in a bid to reduce childhood obesity. HASS is devised by the children's activity provider Fit For Sport and provides schools with reports charting the activity of individual children on a daily basis.
The Governments Child Obesity Strategy calls on primary schools to provide 30 minutes of physical activity on a daily basis. To ensure that schools are adhering to these guidelines, HASS monitors the overall progress of pupils whilst also checking how effective schools are at investigating and implementing new sports initiatives and additional funding.
Available to all primary schools across the country, HASS provides schools with a breakdown of physical activity levels for each child, class and year group in order for teachers to be able to see which areas are in need of improvement. It also monitors pupils' ability in swimming lessons, while providing online plans and resources for schools without access to a full time PE teacher.
