Yoga

Yoga may be used in schools during the school day as an alternative form of physical exercise for the two hours per week, engaging children and young people who perhaps do not enjoy traditional sports. It may also be offered as an after-school activity for children, with or without their parents.

But there's more...

Taught well it can encompass elements of Emotional health and wellbeing as well as physical activity.

Because it is non-threatening, non-competitive, encourages all aspects of healthy living including healthy eating and building self-esteem and respect for others, encompasses relaxation techniques and many more skills for life it is a useful approach for the whole school community.

Yoga teachers should be recognised by the British Wheel of Yoga which is the governing body for yoga in the UK. Go to the British Wheel of Yoga's south west website.

Jilly is compiling a list of suitably qualified yoga teachers. If you would like your details added to the list, or if you need further information about yoga in schools please email Jilly or telephone 01209 310061.
